The American media outlet Axios has informed Iran that it was unaware of Israel’s attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus.

Axios wrote that according to an American official, the United States has told Iran that it had no involvement or prior knowledge of an Israeli assault on a diplomatic compound in Syria, which resulted in the death of a senior Iranian general.

The report further states that this rare message from the U.S. indicates that the Biden administration is deeply concerned that the Israeli attack could escalate regional tensions and lead to the resumption of attacks by Iran-backed militias against U.S. forces.

A National Security Council spokesperson told Axios that we had no involvement in the Israeli attack and were not aware of it beforehand.

A senior U.S. official said Washington has communicated this directly to Iran.

According to American and Israeli officials, Tel Aviv informed the Biden administration a few minutes before its air force attack but did not request a green light from the U.S.
