The Association of Human Rights Defenders: Poisonings to confine women and girls to the corner of their homes

The Association of Human Rights Defenders is using poisonings to confine women and girls to their homes.

The Association of Human Rights Defenders has addressed the issue of serial poisonings of students in Iran by sending a letter to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. In this letter, they refer to the killing of Mahsa Amini and the subsequent protests. It is stated that after these incidents, it seems that mass poisonings of a large number of students in girls’ high schools and art schools have occurred this month in order to create fear among families, especially young girls. Some families are even afraid to send their children to school. This letter compares such behavior to the Taliban in Afghanistan and suggests that the dissatisfaction of the leaders of the Islamic Republic government with the protests of young girls against mandatory hijab in Iran leads them to believe that repeating such events ultimately aims to confine women and girls to their homes. The poisoning of students in schools, mostly girls’ schools, continues from city to city and day by day, and in the latest cases, it has also reached Tehran, Kermanshah, and Ardabil.
