The body of the former leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran will be carried in a funeral procession in Karbala and Najaf before being transferred to Mashhad.

The spokesperson for the funeral and burial ceremony of the former leader of the Islamic Republic announced that his body will also be carried in a procession in the cities of Karbala and Najaf before burial.

Iman Attarzadeh told the IRIB News Agency that the funeral procession will begin on Tuesday, July 7, in Qom, and the funeral prayer will also be held in this city.

According to him, at the request of political parties, cultural groups, and tribes in Iraq, the funeral procession will be held on July 8 and 9 in Karbala and Najaf.

Previously, Alireza Zakani, the mayor of Tehran, had announced that part of the funeral ceremony would be held in Iraq.

According to the officials of the Islamic Republic, after the three-day funeral ceremony in Tehran, he will be buried in Mashhad.
