The City Council President: The Governor’s Approach to Preserving Tehran’s Boundaries Is Not Suitable
The President of Tehran City Council said the goal of all institutions is to preserve Tehran’s boundaries, but the method chosen by the governor’s office to prevent construction in this area is not the right way.
Mehdi Chamran, after a meeting with the governor of Tehran, stated that we have no enmity with anyone; we all want to preserve Tehran’s boundaries, but we told the governor that the method chosen to control construction is not the right way.
He said that the municipality, under the management of Alireza Zakani, has also been tasked with preparing a new boundary proposal for Tehran based on the city’s comprehensive plan and presenting it to the council.
Tehran’s boundary is an area outside the official city limits where any construction and change of land use requires a permit from the capital’s municipality.
This area is defined to prevent the uncontrolled expansion of the city and interference with surrounding cities.
In recent months, disagreements have escalated between the governor’s office, the city council, and the municipality over how to manage and make decisions in this boundary. The governor’s office says it wants to prevent illegal construction, but the city council believes this should only be done through legal channels and with the city council’s approval.
