The electricity industry has accumulated losses of 185 trillion tomans.
A senior official from the Iran Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution Management Company (Tavanir) says the company has accumulated losses of over 185 trillion tomans and accumulated debts of 200 trillion tomans.
Masoud Khani, the project manager for Tavanir’s consumption optimization plans, said on Wednesday, January 30, that both Tavanir and the electricity industry have been loss-making over the past three years, and the company’s debt to power plants has been on the rise.
He stated that due to the accumulated losses and debts, Tavanir no longer has the capacity to invest in building new power plants.
His remarks apparently respond to last week’s statements by Hassan Ali Taqizadeh Landeh, the chairman of the board of the Electricity Producers Syndicate, who said that over the past three years, Tavanir’s revenue has increased three and a half times due to higher electricity tariffs, but according to him, not a single rial of this increased revenue has led to the development and construction of a new power plant.
Mr. Taqizadeh also severely criticized Tavanir in August this year, saying that the company has turned to electricity brokerage.
