The European Union sanctioned 19 officials and entities of the Islamic Republic for human rights violations.

The EU’s foreign policy chief announced that member countries of the union have approved new sanctions against 19 officials and entities associated with the Islamic Republic due to serious human rights violations.

Kaja Kallas, the EU’s foreign policy chief, stated that representatives of the union’s member countries agreed on Wednesday, March 10, to impose new sanctions against 19 officials and entities related to the Iranian government. According to her, these sanctions target individuals recognized as responsible for serious human rights violations.

Kallas wrote in a message on the social network X that today representatives of EU member countries approved new sanctions targeting 19 officials and entities associated with the Iranian government, who are responsible for serious human rights violations.

She added that despite the ongoing war in Iran, the EU will continue to pursue individuals who, according to her, play a role in domestic repression. According to Kallas, this action sends a message to Tehran that Iran’s future cannot be built on repression.

The EU’s foreign policy chief had previously described the event as a defining moment in Iran’s history after Ali Khamenei was killed in the attacks on the first day of the war on March 1.
