The World Association of Professional Footballers is shocked and disgusted by the potential execution of Nasr Azadani.
On Monday, December 12, the World Association of Professional Footballers announced that it is shocked and disgusted by the potential issuance of a death sentence for Amir Reza Nasr Azadani.
Amir Reza Nasr Azadani was arrested in connection with the widespread protests in recent months in Iran.
The head of the judiciary in Isfahan has stated that Mr. Nasr Azadani was arrested two days after the armed attack on September 16 in the city of Isfahan, during which three law enforcement officers were killed.
On Monday night, FIFPRO, the World Association of Professional Footballers, wrote on its official Twitter page that FIFPRO is shocked and disgusted by the news of the potential issuance of a death sentence for Amir Reza Nasr Azadani, an Iranian professional footballer, due to his support for women’s rights and fundamental freedoms in his country. We express our solidarity with Amir Reza and call for the immediate annulment of the sentence issued against him.
Amir Reza Nasr Azadani, born in February 1996, began his professional football career with Iran’s under-16 national team and has played in the Iranian Premier League after joining the Rah Ahan Tehran club.
He has also played as a midfielder for other clubs such as Sepahan, Tractor, and Gol Reyhan Alborz, and is currently a player for the Iran Javan Bushehr club.
In its latest statement, Amnesty International has said that the death sentence for 11 detainees has been confirmed, and at least 9 others, including Amir Reza Nasr Azadani, are at risk of having a death sentence issued against them.
