Nature Rice and the $700 million corruption in the Rouhani government
Nature Rice has received $700 million in preferential currency and 700 billion Tomans under the pretext of purchasing machinery and equipment as a rent-seeking scheme, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Rouhani government.
Nature Rice, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and through scenario planning, caused a decrease of 30,000 Tomans in the price of rice at the time of purchase from farmers and bought rice at a lower price than the farmers. After one month, with the confidential order of the Ministry of Industry, Mine, and Agriculture, it was sold to chain stores at a higher price than Nature Rice.
Eyoub Paydari, the owner of the Nature Rice brand, received a license to import 200,000 tons of rice with government currency at a price 30,000 Tomans below the market price, through a fictitious deal of 100,000 tons of rice with the Rouhani government. This is how the $700 million rice corruption happened, which is only a small part of this corruption. Additionally, $700 billion was received for the import of equipment and machinery, of which only 140 billion was spent, and the rest of the money went into Nature Rice’s pocket.
The goal of Nature Rice, which is supported by the Rouhani government, is to deal a blow to other rice brands in the private sector.
