The head of the Meat Cattle Association is accused of overcharging consumers with a price higher than 470,000 tomans.
The head of the Meat Cattle Association says the current price for each kilogram of veal is 200,000 tomans, and selling meat at a price higher than 470,000 tomans is a violation against consumers.
According to the reporters’ club, Ahmad Moghaddasi said the government should provide subsidies to domestic producers instead of importing meat, which would balance the market.
He said that the solution to regulating the meat market is to make production more economical, and that importing meat temporarily can bring the market into balance, but it is not a fundamental solution.
Mr. Moghaddasi stated that according to statistics, the country has the capacity to produce more than one million tons of red meat, and importing meat will lead to the destruction of domestic production.
According to reports from Iranian media, the price of red meat has been increasing in recent weeks, and the prices announced by official authorities do not match the market prices.
