The Prime Minister of Armenia says Russia is no longer our main defense partner.
Nikol Pashinyan, the Prime Minister of Armenia, stated that Russia can no longer be the country’s main defense partner, and Armenia is currently considering diversifying its security relations.
Mr. Pashinyan told Radio Armenia that previously, 95 to 97 percent of our relations in the defense sector were with Russia, but now it cannot be so for tangible and mental reasons.
He said that Armenia needs to diversify its security relations and decide for itself what kind of relations it will have with India, Iran, Georgia, France, or the United States.
Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, criticized Armenia’s approach towards NATO during a weekly press conference a few days ago.
She warned that many countries have previously seen what close relations with NATO ultimately lead to: interference in conflicts, loss of sovereignty and independence, and submission to the will of others.
Armenia has recently been distancing itself from Russia, which has been its sole security guarantor for decades.
