The Telegraph: Taliban to hand over three Afghans accused of spying for Britain to Iran
The British newspaper The Telegraph reported on Thursday, August 30, that the Taliban intends to hand over three Afghan citizens, who have been arrested on charges of spying for Britain, to the Islamic Republic.
This action is part of a secret agreement between the Taliban and Iran to cooperate in arresting individuals who have previously collaborated with British forces in Afghanistan.
According to this report, the recent decision is the result of high-level negotiations between Taliban leaders and IRGC officials in Kabul to formalize an intelligence agreement between the two parties.
The Telegraph had previously written that the Islamic Republic, in cooperation with the Taliban, seeks access to a list including British security and intelligence forces to use their arrest as leverage in negotiations with the West.
The newspaper, quoting a senior Iranian official in Tehran, wrote that four IRGC officials recently traveled to Kabul without the knowledge of Masoud Pezeshkian’s government and held talks with Taliban leaders about using this list.
