The United States and South Korea have formed a special group to block North Korea’s oil transfers.

The United States and South Korea launched a new special group this week to prevent North Korea from accessing illegal oil, as doubts have arisen about the future of international sanctions in the United Nations Security Council.

South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the first meeting of the special group to enhance disruption EDTF was held in Washington on Wednesday.

More than 30 officials from ministries and diplomatic agencies responsible for sanctions information and maritime enforcement participated in this meeting.

The statement added that both sides expressed concerns about the possibility of North Korea obtaining refined oil from Russia and discussed ways to suspend illegal cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang.

The statement highlighted that oil is a vital source for North Korea’s nuclear and missile development as well as strengthening its military forces.
