The US is considering lifting sanctions on oil tankers linked to Iran and Russia
To curb the rising costs of maritime transportation and fuel prices, the US is examining the possibility of lifting sanctions on the shadow fleet tankers associated with Iran and Russia. Estimates indicate that about 15 percent of the world’s oil tanker fleet is under US sanctions.
The increase in costs has intensified following disruptions in transit through the Strait of Hormuz and rerouting of ships in the Red Sea, to the extent that the cost of transporting a large oil tanker from the US to China has reached approximately $80 million. This review is taking place while Washington is simultaneously increasing sanctions pressure on Iran and has lifted some restrictions related to Russian diesel fuel.
