Besant: America’s economic pressure campaign has brought the Iranian rial to new lows
Scott Besant, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, said Washington’s economic pressure campaign against Iran has caused the value of the rial to fall to lower records. Besant added that the U.S. government will continue its efforts to limit the financial resources of the Islamic Republic, stating that the goal of this policy is to prevent the funding of armed groups aligned with Tehran and to limit Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Today, the Iranian rial also reached a new record in the free market, with each U.S. dollar being traded at around 245 million rials. American officials consider this decline as a sign of the effectiveness of their economic pressure policy, although the devaluation of the rial is also simultaneously influenced by the war of sanctions and Iran’s internal economic problems.
