The Vienna Film Festival’s special Human Rights Award was given to Mojgan Ilanlou.

The Vienna Human Rights Film Festival awarded its special Human Rights prize to Mojgan Ilanlou for the film ‘Thousands of Women’.

Mojgan Ilanlou, a photographer and documentary filmmaker, was arrested on the evening of October 17, 2022.

In the early days of the protests, she had posted photos of herself without the mandatory hijab on her Instagram account.

During the award ceremony at the Vienna Human Rights Film Festival, a message from this imprisoned documentary filmmaker sent from Qarchak Varamin prison was read.

Mojgan Ilanlou dedicated her award to the thousands of anonymous and unknown women who have come forward these days to fight for their most basic rights with the most effective weapon in the world, their lives.
