The danger of land subsidence around the shrine of the Eighth Imam of Shia Muslims

The danger of land subsidence around the shrine of the eighth Shia Imam has reached Shiites.

An official at the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development announced that the rate of land subsidence in Khorasan Razavi province is five times higher than Isfahan.

According to ILNA, Ali Beitalahi, the head of the Vulnerability Department at the Research Center, said on Tuesday, June 11, that the range of land subsidence has reached the northwest of Mashhad, adding that the rate of this phenomenon is about 20 centimeters per year.

Mr. Beitalahi stated that this subsidence has entered the city and gradually affects the center of the city and the vicinity of the Imam Reza shrine.

The phenomenon of land subsidence, which occurs due to drought and extensive groundwater extraction, has been increasing in Iran in recent years.

Experts warn that the expansion of this phenomenon not only affects the lives of millions of citizens but also causes serious damage to historical and ancient structures.
