Three Accounts of the Trump-Netanyahu Phone Call

The phone call between Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu, which according to the U.S. President led to halting a planned Israeli attack on the southern Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh, has been accompanied by differing accounts from various parties.

Trump described this conversation as very constructive and said he asked Netanyahu not to carry out a large-scale attack on Beirut. He also claimed that he contacted Lebanese militia forces through representatives and that both sides agreed to cease hostilities.

In contrast, Netanyahu emphasized that Israel’s policy has not changed, and if attacks on Israeli cities continue, targets in Beirut will be struck. He also stated that the Israeli army’s operations in southern Lebanon will proceed as planned.

Simultaneously, the Axios website, citing American sources, reported that Trump criticized Netanyahu in this call with a harsh tone and expressed dissatisfaction with the escalation of Israeli attacks in Lebanon.

Axios also claimed that the U.S. President expressed concern over the high number of civilian casualties in Lebanon during this conversation and criticized the execution of certain Israeli military operations.
