Three people were executed in Shiraz prison for the crime of rape.

Iranian media have reported that three people were executed in Adel Abad prison in Shiraz on the morning of Thursday, December 22, 2022. According to reports, these individuals were hanged for the crime of rape.

The head of the judiciary of Fars province has stated that these three individuals were identified and arrested in October of the previous year following assaults and rapes of several women in the Drak Park, Sadra Road, and Akbarabad Shiraz. According to Kazem Mousavi, they had committed theft and rape using cold weapons.

According to Mr. Mousavi, this case was investigated following complaints filed by several families.

Human rights organizations have consistently criticized Iran as one of the countries with the highest number of executions, pointing to a significant increase in executions following the rise to power of Ebrahim Raisi’s government in Iran.

Among other things, in recent weeks, the issue of executing some protesters who were arrested during the recent protests has been a focal point of public attention in this country.
