Trump’s Request to Dismiss Election Interference Case
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has filed a petition in court seeking the dismissal of the case accusing him of interfering with the results of the previous presidential election.
He has stated that at the time, he was fulfilling his duty as president to defend the rights of the people and was therefore immune.
Mr. Trump argued in his petition that his statements, including expressing doubts about the integrity of the 2020 election, were within his official duties as president and responsible for ensuring the election’s validity.
The judicial proceedings in the case against Mr. Trump are set to begin in March of next year and will address the issue of the attack by opponents of the election results on the Capitol building on January 6, 2020.
His petition could delay this court process.
In a separate case, Mr. Trump’s lawyers in New York have submitted a request to dismiss the criminal case against him over allegations of paying money to a porn star.
This woman has claimed that the money was paid to keep her relationship with Mr. Trump secret.
