UAE Opposes Plan to Relocate Palestinians from Gaza for Reconstruction
Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Abu Dhabi, stated on Wednesday, February 19th, in a meeting with Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, that his country opposes Donald Trump’s plan to relocate Palestinians from Gaza.
The U.S. President’s plan, which had previously spoken of turning Gaza into the beautiful coast of the Middle East, had already faced strong criticism and opposition from Arab countries, including Egypt and Jordan.
In his meeting and discussion with Rubio, Al Nahyan emphasized the two-state solution, stating that it is important for the reconstruction of Gaza to become a path towards achieving a sustainable and inclusive peace, a path that leads to the realization of this solution.
The position of the United Arab Emirates in the Middle East crisis is significant because the UAE is one of the four countries that normalized its relations with Israel during Trump’s first presidential term and also plays an important role in funding the reconstruction of Gaza.
