The UN: India’s population will surpass China’s this week

The United Nations has said that India will become the most populous country in the world this week by surpassing China.

According to recent data, India’s population is expected to reach 1,425,775,850 by the end of April.

Another UN body predicted last week that India’s population would surpass China’s by the middle of this year.

Asian countries have accounted for more than one-third of the world’s population over the past 70 years.

The UN’s Department of Economic and Social Affairs stated in a release that China will soon relinquish its long-standing position as the world’s most populous country.

The office also added that due to the margin of error associated with population estimation and prediction, the date when India’s population surpasses China’s is approximate and subject to revision.

The UN Population Fund said last week that by mid-2023, India’s population will be about 29 million more than China’s.
