UN’s reaction to reports about mass graves in Gaza

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights described the destruction of Nasser and Shifa hospitals in the Gaza Strip and the discovery of mass graves with hundreds of bodies in the premises of these medical centers as horrifying.

The U.S. State Department also said on Tuesday, April 24, that the reports about mass graves in the Gaza Strip are concerning.

Volker Turk called for an independent investigation into the deaths.

However, the Israeli army described the Palestinian Civil Defense’s claims that Israeli soldiers buried the bodies in these locations as baseless and unfounded.

The Israeli army’s statement added that inspections to identify the bodies were conducted with full care and only in locations where, based on security information, it was suspected that there might be buried hostage bodies. These inspections were carried out with full respect and dignity for the deceased individuals.
