UN Security Council Resolution for Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza Strip

UN Security Council members called for an immediate ceasefire in the month of Ramadan, about six months after the start of the Israel-Hamas war.

After months of disagreement, with three US vetoes and one from Russia and China, Security Council members finally voted on a resolution calling for a ceasefire, humanitarian aid delivery, and the release of Israeli hostages. The US abstained from voting on the ceasefire resolution.

A draft of this resolution was presented by ten Security Council member countries who do not have veto power.

According to Israeli media reports, Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, had previously threatened that if the US vetoed this resolution, the Israeli Defense Minister’s trip to Washington would be canceled.
