Improper Restoration of Shushtar’s Water Structures

Yesterday, images released of Shushtar’s water structures, which date back to the Achaemenid era, indicate improper restoration of this historical monument.

Hasti Poodfaroush, a heritage expert and journalist in this field, announced by sharing these images that the structure has been restored using black cement, which is different from the original color of the structure, to reinforce it.

Shushtar’s water structures are a historical complex including bridges, dams, mills, waterfalls, hand-dug canals, and massive water-guiding tunnels, constructed during the Achaemenid and Sassanian periods to make better use of water. This structure was registered on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2009.
