Unrest in Iran: Night protests in several cities and a security atmosphere in Kurdish regions

Reports from Iran indicate that several cities, including Tehran, witnessed scattered anti-government protests on Monday night following the national football team’s defeat in the World Cup.

The atmosphere in Kurdish cities of Iran is also reported to be tense and under security measures. According to some human rights groups, security forces on Monday opened fire on mourners returning from the funerals of those killed in the protests in the cities of Javanrud and Piranshahr.

The HRANA News Agency, affiliated with the Human Rights Activists in Iran, has reported that 434 people have been killed during the protests so far. According to the same report, 60 of these victims were children.
