Unrest in Iran: Night protests in several cities and a security atmosphere in Kurdish areas

Reports from Iran indicate that several cities, including Tehran, witnessed scattered and anti-government protests on Monday night following the national football team’s defeat in the World Cup.

The atmosphere in Iranian Kurdish cities is also reported to be tense and securitized. According to some human rights groups, security forces on Monday fired at mourners returning from the funerals of those killed in the protests in the cities of Javanrud and Piranshahr.

The Hrana news agency, affiliated with the Human Rights Activists News Agency, has reported that so far 434 people have been killed in the protests. According to the same report, 60 of these victims were children.
