Urgent Message from Mohammadreza Jalaeipour from Evin Prison

Today, political activist Mohammadreza Jalaeipour issued an urgent message from Evin Prison as follows: The authorities of Ward 4 in Evin have informed Ali Younesi, Amirhossein Moradi, and me, Mohammadreza Jalaeipour, that we are to be moved from the general halls of Ward 4 to a separate room away from the rest of the ward. It is possible that later Mr. Mostafa Tajzadeh and Siamak Namazi will also be brought to this room. This room, which has more restrictions and separate public facilities, is a bare room without basic amenities and is constantly monitored by cameras and sound recorders. The excuse given by the prison authorities for this transfer is to ensure security and reduce the risk of assassination attempts on us after the events of October 15 in Evin.

This decision is indefensible because 1. Ensuring the security of all prisoners is the prison’s duty, not just ours. 2. If the intention is to segregate prisoners based on the type of accusation/crime, why are only a few of us being moved to a room without facilities, and not allocating a separate hall with public amenities to all political, security, and civil prisoners? 3. The mentioned room lacks the necessary basic amenities for accommodation. 4. Its additional restrictions and separation from the rest of the ward and our other inmate friends have turned it into a prison within a prison.

5. The Attorney General stated yesterday in the Article 90 Commission that the events in Evin were with prior knowledge and preparedness of the security agencies, and for this reason, the leave of some prisoners had been extended. How is it that before the horrific and dangerous events of a few nights ago in Evin Prison, nothing was done to ensure our security, and now that it’s over, it becomes an excuse for our relocation and increased restrictions? Is it too much to ask that people like me serve our unjust imprisonment at least under conditions similar to other prisoners in Ward 4 of Evin Prison? We declare that of our own will and without imposition by the prison, we are not willing to accept this restrictive transfer. Mohammadreza Jalaeipour, October 19, 2022, Ward 4, Evin Prison.
