Urgent Message from Mohammadreza Jalaeipour from Evin Prison

Today, political activist Mohammadreza Jalaeipour issued an urgent message from Evin Prison stating that the officials of Ward 4 have told Ali Younesi, Amirhossein Moradi, and me, Mohammadreza Jalaeipour, that we must be moved from the public halls of Ward 4 to a separate room within the ward. It is likely that later Mr. Mostafa Tajzadeh and Siamak Namazi will also be brought to this room. This room, which has more restrictions and separate public facilities, is a bare room without basic amenities and is constantly under camera and sound recording surveillance. The reason cited by the prison officials for this transfer is to ensure our safety and reduce the risk of assassination attempts after the events of October 15th at Evin.

This decision is indefensible because 1. Ensuring the safety of all prisoners is the responsibility of the prison, not just us. 2. If the intention is to segregate prisoners based on the type of charge/crime, why are only a few of us being moved to a room without amenities, instead of dedicating a separate hall with public facilities to all political and civil security prisoners? 3. The mentioned room lacks the basic necessities for accommodation. 4. The additional restrictions of this room and its separation from the rest of the ward and our other friends in prison have turned it into a prison within a prison.

5. The country’s Attorney General stated yesterday in the Article 90 Commission that the events at Evin were known and prepared for by security agencies, and for this reason, the leave of some prisoners had been extended. How is it that before the terrible and dangerous events of a few nights ago at Evin Prison, nothing was done to ensure our safety, and now that it is over, it becomes an excuse to relocate and increase our restrictions? It is too much to expect that people like me should at least serve our unjust imprisonment under conditions similar to other prisoners in Ward 4 of Evin Prison. We declare that we are not willing to accept this increased restriction transfer voluntarily and without coercion by the prison. Mohammadreza Jalaeipour, October 19, 2022, Ward 4, Evin Prison
