The US sanctioned three members of the Ministry of Intelligence

On Tuesday, March 24, the United States Treasury Department announced that it has sanctioned three officials of the Islamic Republic’s Ministry of Intelligence, named Taghi Daneshvar, Reza Amiri Moghaddam, and Gholamhossein Mohammadi Nia, for their roles in the abduction, imprisonment, and eventual possible death of Robert Levinson, a former FBI agent.

According to the statement from this department, these three officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence were placed on the sanctions list due to a coordinated action by the Treasury Department and the FBI.

The United States Treasury Department states that these three individuals played a role in the abduction and possible death of Levinson and the Islamic Republic’s efforts to conceal or deny the Iranian government’s responsibility in this case.

Robert Levinson, a former agent of the DEA within the FBI, disappeared on Kish Island in March 2007.

Fourteen years later, Levinson’s family announced that they have accepted his death.
