Vahid Abedini, an Iranian professor at the University of Oklahoma, was released after being detained by U.S. Immigration Police.

Vahid Abedini, an Iranian professor at the University of Oklahoma who was detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, has announced his release.

In a message he posted on social media a few hours ago, he wrote, ‘I am happy to announce that I was released from detention tonight.’

Mr. Abedini described his detention experience as very distressing on LinkedIn and thanked those who supported him.

A close associate of Mr. Abedini told the media in a statement that he was detained at the airport while boarding a flight to Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States.

Mr. Abedini, who holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and is an Assistant Professor of Iranian Studies at the University of Oklahoma, intended to travel to Washington to attend a Middle Eastern Studies conference.
