Velayati called the Iraqi Prime Minister’s visit to the US a great disgrace

Ali Akbar Velayati, senior advisor to the former leader of the Islamic Republic on international affairs, sharply criticized Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zeidi’s visit to the US and his meeting with Donald Trump.

In a note published by domestic news agencies, including Tasnim, Velayati described Al-Zeidi as a young and inexperienced prime minister and called his trip to Washington a great disgrace. He claimed that this visit took place while the funeral ceremony for the slain leader of the Islamic Republic had not yet concluded.

Ali Al-Zeidi, who became Iraq’s prime minister in May this year, went on his first foreign trip to the US and met with Donald Trump. In this meeting, Trump referred to him as a hero and stated that American forces would leave Iraq by September 30, and American companies would expand their activities in the country.

The Iraqi Prime Minister also announced that after the mission of the US-led coalition ends, no armed group outside government control will be allowed to carry weapons. These statements could also impact armed groups supported by the Islamic Republic, including Hashd al-Shaabi.
