Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Turkey
Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, met with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in Istanbul on Friday, March 9th, after arriving in Turkey.
Throughout the Ukraine war, the Turkish President has tried to maintain a balance in his close relations with both Moscow and Kyiv and has repeatedly expressed his readiness to mediate with the aim of ending the war.
A senior Turkish government official said it is expected that in these talks, Mr. Erdoğan will emphasize negotiating to end the Russian military aggression against Ukraine, which has entered its third year.
According to this official, who wished to remain anonymous, another focus of the discussions will be new measures to ensure the security of commercial shipping in the Black Sea.
This meeting takes place as Volodymyr Zelensky has been pressuring Ukraine’s Western supporters to provide the necessary ammunition and weapons for his country’s army as soon as possible to counter Russia’s advances in the western areas of Donetsk province, located in the east, and penetration into Kharkiv province, located in the northeast of Ukraine.
