Volodymyr Zelensky: Putin is only afraid of Trump, and ending the war without negotiating sovereignty is not possible
Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, said in a television interview that Vladimir Putin is only afraid of Donald Trump, and real pressure on Russia can only come through economic sanctions and military aid without the US military directly entering the war.
Zelensky stated that Trump seeks to end the war through a form of compromise, but Putin is trying to force Ukraine to completely relinquish the eastern Donbas region, an area that Russia, despite nearly four years of full-scale war, has not yet succeeded in fully capturing.
The President of Ukraine emphasized that while we support efforts to end the war, there can be no compromise on the sovereignty of our country.
He added that the conquest of eastern Ukraine would cost Russia about eight hundred thousand more casualties and would take at least two years, with very slow progress. According to him, Russia cannot bear such costs.
Zelensky also announced that since the beginning of the war, about fifty-five thousand Ukrainian military personnel have been killed, and some are missing.
According to him, currently, a Ukrainian delegation is present in Abu Dhabi, participating in trilateral negotiations mediated by the United States with the presence of Russia, with the primary priority of these talks being to end the war.
