Washington says Beijing’s purchase of energy from Iran and Russia fuels Moscow’s war machine
Scott Besant, Treasury Secretary, and Jamison Greer, US Trade Representative, condemned China’s plan to restrict the export of rare metals as an attempt to dominate the global supply chain at a joint press conference on Wednesday.
The two American economic officials, speaking with reporters in Stockholm, called for a coordinated response from European allies.
Besant announced that China purchases 60% of Russia’s energy and 90% of Iran’s energy production. He warned that these purchases fuel Moscow’s war machine.
The Treasury Secretary emphasized that Washington is ready to impose tariffs on China in response to Beijing’s purchase of Russian oil, but successful implementation of this measure requires the full cooperation and coordination of European allies.
