A source close to the negotiations told The Washington Times on Saturday, May 23rd, that the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran are expected to announce the finalization of a peace understanding by Sunday afternoon to end conflicts on all fronts. According to this source, the draft of this proposal was agreed upon in the early hours of Saturday, and it is expected to be officially announced within the next 24 hours.
Senior negotiators from both sides, including Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, J.D. Vance, U.S. Vice President Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, have approved this draft. The draft version of this peace agreement has now been sent for final approval to the leaders of both countries.
If successful, this agreement will transform the existing fragile six-week ceasefire into a lasting peace, although Trump had previously indicated that if no agreement is reached, the possibility of new attacks exists.
