Western officials: Putin is not seeking a direct military confrontation with NATO
Western officials say that Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, despite Moscow’s escalating threats against Britain and other countries supporting Ukraine, does not intend to enter into a direct military conflict with NATO.
According to reports, CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s visit to Moscow this week was partly aimed at warning Russia about any potential attack on a NATO member.
These officials have also assessed Moscow’s recent threats about the possibility of targeting British forces or arms factories as a continuation of previous Russian positions and lacking any new elements.
