With Trump’s signature, the budget for two American media outlets was cut
Donald Trump, the President of the United States, on Thursday signed an executive order to completely halt funding for two prominent American public media outlets, NPR and PBS.
According to the text of this order, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) is required to stop all direct and indirect financial support to these networks to the maximum extent possible under the law.
The Trump administration accused these media outlets in a statement of using public resources to disseminate partisan views and leftist propaganda.
In recent months, the Trump administration has not only accused NPR and PBS but also many media and academic institutions, including Harvard University, Columbia University, Voice of America, Radio Free Asia, and Middle East Broadcasting Networks, of having political biases and threatened to cut their financial support.
Last month, a federal judge issued an order to immediately halt actions in response to the government’s attempt to shut down some of these institutions.
These policies have faced strong reactions and criticism from advocates of freedom of speech, the press, and academia both inside and outside the United States.
