Zakani’s substantial financial aid to certain city council members has been paid from the people’s pockets.
Recently, a list of the municipality’s assistance to some of its managers for housing deposits has been published. The municipality has not yet officially responded to this list, but one of the members of the Tehran City Council requested last year that this aid be at least transparent for the council members.
Mehdi Eghrarian, head of the Tehran City Council’s Oversight Committee, answers the question of why the information requested by city council members is not given to them but is unofficially revealed by media activists. He tells EcoIran that unfortunately, it seems that some critical members are not considered trustworthy.
He continues, on October 8th of last year, I received a report regarding housing deposit assistance, and for verification, I requested the municipality provide me with a list of this aid, which did not happen. This aid is not from the honorable mayor’s pocket, but from the pockets of the municipality and the people of Tehran, and should be available to city council members for oversight.
