The United States condemns the arrest of the Wall Street Journal journalist

The U.S. Department of State expressed deep concern in statements regarding the arrest of the Wall Street Journal journalist in Russia, stating, ‘We are deeply troubled by reports that Ivan Greshkovitch, an American citizen, has been detained in Russia.’

The statement further condemns the continued harassment, persecution, and suppression of journalists and press freedom by the Russian government. Washington says it is in contact with the family of Ivan Greshkovitch as well as the Russian government.

The arrest of Ivan Greshkovitch, a journalist for the Wall Street Journal, took place yesterday in Yekaterinburg.

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has accused him of espionage, claiming that this journalist collected information from a Russian military company at the request of the United States, which is classified as confidential government information.
