Declaration of War from Twitter to Trump
According to IranGate, Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, along with Elon Musk, started their election campaign on Twitter Spaces on May 24th. However, due to technical issues, the start of their campaign on Twitter Spaces was not pleasant and desirable.
The announcement of the candidacy of the governor of Florida is seen as a challenge to Donald Trump, the former president of the United States and the Republican Party’s presidential candidate in 2024. After Ron DeSantis officially confirmed his presence in the 2024 presidential election, Donald Trump welcomed him by saying, ‘This is a disaster.’
DeSantis’ campaign on Twitter Spaces did not go as planned due to technical difficulties. The audio platform of Twitter Spaces crashed during the initial half-hour conversation between the governor of Florida and Elon Musk, the owner of this social network. Ultimately, after an unpleasant start and a long initial silence, this conversation lasted for 90 minutes.
Then Descantis tried to make a joke about this incident and said, ‘I also blew up Twitter,’ and his supporters and spokespersons interpreted this event as a sign of a major transformation and change in the White House. In any case, this technical problem and the not-so-good start did not have any effect on the quality of Descantis’ conversation, and this was evident throughout the program.
The technical problem that occurred not only exposed the fragility of Twitter under the management and organization of Elon Musk, but also weakened the powerful and rapid surge that Descantis needed to win. Donald Trump immediately reacted to this event, calling it a tragedy and adding that all his election struggles will be a disaster. Earlier, his colleagues had already questioned Descantis’ charisma and leadership power.
According to surveys, Dentis is facing a difficult challenge as the former President Donald Trump enjoys the support of conservative voters. However, Dentis is not oblivious to traditional campaign methods and has continued his campaign with an election campaign video, television interviews, and official document presentations.
The Governor of Florida has not hesitated to take any action in the beginning of his presidential nomination campaign, and perhaps it can be claimed that due to his personal credibility, he is ahead of his fellow party candidates, Senator Tim Scott, an African American, and Nikki Haley, the former Governor of South Carolina.
His goal is clear: to gain a decisive radical base in the preliminary intra-party elections and establish himself as a trusted conservative. Speaking on Twitter was done to achieve this goal, as this communication tool was Trump’s favorite before he migrated to his own social media platform, Truth Social.
In addition, Dentis has also invested in supporting Elon Musk, although Musk tries to show that he wants to remain neutral in the challenge between Republicans. However, since acquiring Micro Blocking, this controversial investor has steered it towards the right and is accused of opening the door to conspiracy theories and misinformation.
According to the Dentis state law, during election campaigns, he will continue his responsibility as governor. He has distinguished himself with his initiatives against abortion, public education, civil rights, and gun control. The law he passed against abortion effectively bans abortion after the sixth week, before many women are even aware of their pregnancy. Additionally, he eliminated the licensing requirements for carrying firearms.
He approved two bills that prohibit diversity programs in universities and deem it illegal for students or teachers to use pronouns that do not align with their assigned gender at birth. Dentis ordered the banning of over 500 books due to their content being deemed anti-racist, sexually-oriented, or inappropriate for non-traditional families, according to him.
On June 1, 2021, Governor DeSantis signed the Fairness in Women’s Sports SB 1028 bill, which prohibits transgender girls and women from participating in elementary, high school, and college sports competitions in Florida. This law went into effect on July 1.
Currently, it can only be said with certainty that her electoral campaigns will not face a financial shortage. Her supporting committee expects her campaign to cost at least $200 million, and she has already hired employees in 18 states.
Her Twitter adventure raised two questions that will only be answered in the coming months: Does DeSantis know how to appear as a credible national leader? If so, can her cultural war program attract the votes of moderate and independent voters, which are crucial for winning and conquering the White House?
Finally, it is predicted that the official announcement of DeSantis’ candidacy for the 2024 presidential election will pose a real challenge for other Republican Party candidates. At this stage, it is unlikely that the candidacy announcements of other party members will prevent the confrontation and competition between the two main rivals within the party, Donald Trump and the Governor of Florida. However, currently it seems that Trump has a much better chance and is leading in all polls.
On the other hand, it is highly probable that DeSantis will achieve good results in his own state and he also has the opportunity to capitalize on the legal issues that Trump has recently faced, presenting a better, more reasonable, and more popular image of himself.
Furthermore, DeSantis’ announcement of candidacy in the Democratic Party will lead to troubles and issues. If previously Joe Biden was considered the best response to Trump’s candidacy, the emergence of the Governor of Florida in the political scene will create doubts and suspicions about this belief, and may even provoke ambitions within the Democratic Party.
