Debate in Florida and Trump’s Defeat
The debate between the gubernatorial candidates in the state of Florida had an interesting loser, Donald Trump. Charlie Crist, the Democratic candidate, faced off against Ron DeSantis, the Republican governor, who is defending his position and has a strong standing in the polls. DeSantis, who is popular among Republicans and conservatives not only in his state but throughout the United States, had previously spoken about his plans and aspirations for running for presidency and securing the Republican nomination in 2024.
During the debate, Charlie Crist posed a question to his opponent, asking if he plans to run for presidency and would abandon his governorship halfway through. Naturally, Trump’s wish is for DeSantis not to become a candidate, as he is his biggest and most important rival.
Ron DeSantis stumbled several times in his response during the heated debate, and this stumble has significant meaning. It is not good news for Trump if DeSantis seriously enters the competition for 2024, as it will disrupt the internal dynamics of the Republicans.
