Reactions to the Deployment of Russian Nuclear Weapons in Belarus
Germany called Russia’s intention to deploy nuclear weapons in Belarus a step towards nuclear intimidation.
The Pentagon reacted calmly to this news, stating that the U.S. will not change its nuclear weapons policy.
Russia’s announcement of deploying nuclear weapons in Belarus sparked criticism from the German government. On the evening of Saturday, March 25, the German Foreign Ministry released a statement describing this move as a further attempt by Russia at nuclear intimidation.
The statement mentioned that Putin’s incorrect comparison regarding NATO’s share of nuclear weapons is misleading and cannot justify the action announced by Russia.
The German Foreign Ministry further reminded that Belarus has committed to being free of nuclear weapons in several international declarations.
