The Congress and the White House are not the only arenas of sensitive electoral competition in the 2022 elections. The future presidential campaigns of 2024 are also entangled with the state-level electoral competitions in the United States. It is well known that the entire America recognizes the Congress, the House of Representatives, and the Senate as key players in the electoral process, even though the President sits behind the desk in the White House. However, one of the most crucial topics in every election cycle is the status of state legislators.

State legislators play a significant role in determining the fate of many issues, especially in many states. Every few years, with the changing electoral map, district boundaries, and constant manipulation of electoral laws, they determine the outcome of various elections in their states.

It is here that if we take a simple look at the situation of the states and the composition of their legislative bodies, we easily find out to what extent the Republicans have gained control over the state legislatures of most states in America. This important, and perhaps primary, factor is the Democrats’ failure when they have control of Congress and the White House, but their influence does not extend to many internal dealings within the states.

Democratic governors are also facing the same crisis in many states. The maximum power of a Democratic governor, such as in Wisconsin for example, has been to refuse to sign some of the right-wing lawmakers’ bills. Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, however, should be recognized as a hero of American politics because she has survived despite extremist state lawmakers.

Republicans have changed the fate of American elections for decades by implementing extensive changes to the electoral maps in state legislatures in the early 2010s. They have attempted to do so again this year. Democrats have not been idle either and have sought to change the maps in their favor in states where they had control of the legislatures. However, their plans were thwarted in New York and they suffered a setback in a state like Nevada, where they changed the map so badly that it ultimately worked against them.

With the current electoral situation and the composition of the intra-state electoral maps, Republicans have control over many state legislative structures and will continue to do so. The political landscape of America is determined here, and the situation for Democrats is not good.
