110 political and civil activists in Turkey have been arrested
Reuters news agency reported on Tuesday, April 25, citing Turkish security sources, that the country’s police have arrested 110 people on charges of connection with paramilitary groups, specifically the PKK group.
According to these sources, the prosecutor’s office has issued arrest warrants for 216 people, all accused of providing financial and promotional support to the PKK, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, which the Turkish government considers a terrorist and illegal group.
Meanwhile, a representative close to the Kurds, referring to the connection of these arrests to the upcoming elections in Turkey, reported that several politicians, lawyers, and journalists are among those arrested.
According to Reuters, the focus of the arrests was in the city of Diyarbakir in southeastern Turkey, the Kurdish-majority area, but individuals from 21 provinces across Turkey have been targeted in total.
