130 US lawmakers urge Europe to list the IRGC as a terrorist organization
On Monday, April 10, 130 members of the US Congress sent a joint letter to Josep Borrell, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, urging the inclusion of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the EU’s list of terrorist groups.
This letter was initiated by three US Congress members: Kathy Manning, Tom Kean, and Bill Keating.
In part of the letter, the senators state that Iran remains one of the countries supporting terrorism, and for decades, the IRGC has openly and freely plotted to target citizens of EU countries.
During the past six months of protests, many Iranians have called for the IRGC to be listed as a terrorist group by the EU.
About four months ago, during the popular uprising in 2022, the European Parliament, with a majority of its members, condemned the suppression of protesters in Iran and requested the EU to include the IRGC and its subsidiaries, including the Basij, Quds Force, and project collaborators of this entity, in the list of terrorist organizations.
