68% Inflation in Food Prices Compared to Last Year

While the country’s economic officials report a decline in inflation rates, the realities show the opposite, according to the Islamic Republic Newspaper.

The Iranian Statistics Center published data on the Consumer Price Index or inflation rate at the beginning of December 2022. According to this report, the point-to-point inflation rate for the entire country in November was 48.5%. The rural areas’ inflation rate was reported to be over 51%, which is about 3% higher than the urban areas’ rate of approximately 48%.

The inflation rate for food items in November 2022 increased by nearly 68% compared to November 2021.

This figure was about 70% in October. Inflation for bread and cereals was over 74%, and for red meat and poultry, it was over 64%. Milk, cheese, and eggs saw a growth of over 81%, and oils and fats experienced a price increase of about 250%.
