Conviction of Aircraft Engine Smugglers for 96 Billion Rials in Iran

The Director General of the Hormozgan Governmental Sanctions Organization announced on Monday, December 18, the conviction of aircraft engine smugglers for more than 96 billion rials.

According to Fars News Agency, Kiumars Hassanpour stated that the value of this Airbus aircraft engine is 4 billion and 827 million rials.

The term ‘negale’ is commonly used in the ports and customs of southern Iran to refer to units of unpackaged, typically expensive imported goods.

The news of the smuggling of an Airbus aircraft engine has been published while some officials and experts have warned in recent years about the bankruptcy of the country’s aviation industry due to many grounded aircraft.

According to experts, Iran’s aviation fleet needs at least 400 new aircraft for renovation, but the country’s economic situation and economic sanctions resulting from nuclear programs have hindered the renovation and modernization of this fleet.
