Iran’s steel production decreased by 15% in the summer.
Statistics from the World Steel Association indicate that Iran’s steel production has significantly decreased this summer.
In recent years, Iran has faced increasing power deficits during the summer season, leading to limited electricity supply to steel plants each year.
The latest report from the World Steel Association shows that Iran’s steel production in this summer has dropped by 15% compared to the same season last year.
In August, which is the middle of summer, when the country faced an unprecedented power deficit of 20,000 megawatts, Iran’s steel production plummeted by around 10% compared to the same month last year, about 33% compared to August 2022, and about 44% compared to the same month in 2021.
Moreover, Iran produced only 14 million tons of steel last month, while during the spring or fall seasons when steel plants are not facing electricity and gas cuts, Iran produces twice this amount of steel.
In terms of global steel prices, only Iran’s raw steel production factories in this summer suffered losses of around $15 billion due to partial operation and lower production than capacity.
