A group of Iranian track and field athletes, coaches, and veterans gathered in front of the Ministry of Sports and Youth building in Tehran on Tuesday, June 3rd, demanding the resignation of Ahmad Donyamali, the Minister of Sports, and Ehsan Hadadi, the head of the Iranian Track and Field Federation.

Some supporters of Donyamali and Hadadi also reacted to this gathering by attacking the protesters and beating them.

This protest gathering was held in response to the scandalous case of sexual assault by three members of the Iranian national track and field team on a 20-year-old woman in South Korea.

In recent months, the Iranian track and field community has repeatedly called for the removal of Ehsan Hadadi from the presidency of this federation due to weak management and multiple ethical cases.

One of the members of the Iranian track and field delegation at the Asian Games in South Korea has revealed that Masoud Kamran, a runner, and Hossein Rasouli, a discus thrower, along with Amir Moradi, the coach of the Iranian team, are the three national team members arrested on charges of gang sexual assault on a woman at a hotel in Gumi, South Korea.

Mehdi Haftcheshmeh, a hammer thrower for the Iranian track and field team, was also detained for a few hours due to mobile phone theft and was later released after paying money and receiving a two-year ban from competitions.
