Abbas Abdi: We have one of the weakest internets in the world
In a note titled ‘Alien to the Information Economy’ in the Etemad newspaper, Abbas Abdi wrote that a few days ago, thanks to some entrepreneurs in the virtual space, awards were given to a number of journalists active in the field of data. This could be a good start for the growth of data-driven journalism. However, this is in a situation where the official approach in the country is alien to the information economy. A society that is indifferent to this economy and its infrastructure, namely the internet and the free flow of information, cannot expect any long-term and significant transformation in the economy, especially in the productivity factor, which is supposed to provide at least half of the country’s economic growth through increased productivity.
Unfortunately, the new government is strict both in the production and distribution of information and does not move in line with global developments in internet infrastructure, and we have one of the weakest internet lines. Moreover, information security is seriously at risk due to the migration of skilled personnel and other reasons, as evidenced by the hacking of various sites. Worst of all, they consider themselves practically needless of informational services.
